Background information:
Alarm systems, test equipment, air conditioning monitoring systems and their associated control programs often require that a dial-up modem be connected to the RS232 port in order to exchange alarms or configuration data.

For in-house applications this means reserving at least two of the few available direct dial numbers in a telephone system. If the communication partner is located at a remote site, you must add to this long-distance or dedicated line lease charges. The W&T LAN modem makes it possible to route such connections over the already existing LAN. Use of TCP/IP protocol permits both intranet and Internet accesses to be utilized as the communications path.

The RS232 port on the LAN modems, which operates at a data rate of 57,600 baud, emulates the Modem-AT command set and converts it into TCP/IP and Ethernet at 10 as well as with 100MBit/s.

To use the LAN modem, all you need to do is replace the previous telephone number with the IP address of the destination modem. No other changes are necessary!

The W&T LAN modem allows you to integrate modem-based systems into the network without any modification to the software or firmware.

Virtual modem ports under Windows
The COM Port Redirector for Windows NT/2000/XP/2003 allows you to set up virtual COM ports that emulate a LAN modem. Both incoming and outgoing calls are supported, so that no external hardware is required on the side of the central application. Interested?
